Twice Champion NZ Apprentice Jockey Sam Weatherley got a feel for 3YO filly Jennifer Eccles in a track gallop last Wednesday and came away impressed with the filly; as much as anything, her professionalism.

He took the reigns again in a trial at Te Rapa today and the filly won under her own steam, with Weatherley letting the brakes off a little in the home straight.

"She was good enough to get through the ground (Slow8) today," he told trainer Shaune Ritchie & I on dismounting. "But she will be better on firmer going," he added.

Jennifer Eccles (by Rip Van Winkle) is raced by the Challenge No.10 Syndicate and was Listed Race-placed third in the Auckland Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Ellerslie at her second start last season at two years.

The filly might return to racing at Te Aroha Sunday week, or be reserved for Te Rapa on the following Friday - track conditions will decide.

From there she will step out in the first leg of the NZB 3YO Filly of the Year Series at Hastings, the Gold Trail Stakes-Gr.3, 21 September.
