The day I met JENNIFER ECCLES

I will be working New Zealand Bloodstock's ONLINE National Weanling Sale - inclusive of on-farm inspections - and it got me thinking of my first encounter with this season's Filly of the Year, Jennifer Eccles.

It was the 8th of May 2017 at the Karaka Sales Centre. Consigned by her breeders Peter & Sue Westend, Jennifer Eccles was Lot 221 of that year's NZB National Weanling Sale.

She met all my pedigree and commercial appeal criteria, so made a short-list of 8 fillies which I hoped would be within my budget. I inspected her, immediately liked what I saw, and asked Dr Alec Jorgensen of the Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre to check her over for me.

Despite being a lovely athletic filly by a terrific sire in Rip Van Winkle, Jennifer Eccles was passed in. I went straight around to her box & made an offer. It was rejected, but eventually a price of $5,000 was agreed upon.

Obviously I can recommend New Zealand Bloodstock's National Weanling Sale as a terrific source to buy yourself a racehorse. I'll certainly be having a long hard look at the online catalogue this week. Thereafter I will be organising on-farm inspections of the colts and fillies which meet my pedigree and commercial appeal criteria. Please contact me if you'd like to commission my services for this sale.
