There's something that racing jurisdictions around the globe have come to expect from the New Zealand thoroughbred breeding community - a constant delivery of equine athletes who can perform at the highest level on world racing stages.
It's not something new. New Zealand thoroughbred breeders have been doing it for decades - from the mighty Phar Lap in the 1920s to a hundred years on, Hong Kong's all-time leading money earner, Beauty Generation . Inbetween times there have been too many greats carrying the NZ-suffix to mention here, but the likes of Balmerino, Sunline, Starcraft and So You Think come readily to mind.
While New Zealand racing is facing tough times - and it's been tough out there long before Covid-19 came along - the kiwi thoroughbred breeding industry has continued on doing what it does best; breeding, raising and educating great stock for international demand.
Fashions within the racing and breeding industry come and go. One thing remains constant, New Zealand's terrific ability to breed world-class racehorses.
