Jennifer Eccles gears up to tackle vintage crop

Few would argue that our elite three-year-old fillies this season are a vintage crop; there's great depth of quality as we saw in the NZ 1000 Guineas-Gr.1, Barneswood Farm Soliloquy Stakes-Gr.3 and Hawkes Bay Breeders' Gold Trail Stakes-Gr.3. And that doesn't take into account the fillies still emerging as the season unfolds and the distances increase.

It's neat to be managing for the Challenge No.10 Syndicate a filly like Jennifer Eccles (trained by Shaune Ritchie). She showed in the 1000 Guineas when charging home for second that she is right up there with the best of them.

Her 3YO campaign continues on Boxing Day when she contests the SkyCity Eight Carat Classic-Gr.2 (1600m).

Jennifer Eccles (Rip Van Winkle) worked over 1200m on the Course Proper at the Cambridge Training Centre this morning in heavy rain. She increased the tempo half-way through the gallop and clocked 36.77 seconds for the final 600m.

World-class jockey James McDonald rides Jennifer Eccles on Boxing Day after Sam Weatherley copped an 8 meeting suspension at Tauranga last week.
