I got a real kick out of watching Wairau Cove blitz his Maiden rivals by 5 lengths at Matamata yesterday; he became the seventh individual winner for his dam Distinctive Lass & collectively that group of horses has won 32 races!
I selected Distinctive Lass for Nearco Stud at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale. She was from the consignment of Yarraman Park Stud (as agent) and I vividly remember buying her late in the day for A$140,000. She fitted my criteria of being young, Stakes-performed & offering a pedigree with real depth including the fact that her second dam was the 3 times Gr.1 winner Special.
At auction time Distinctive Lass was carrying a 9 October service to Denman; that covering resulted in the first of the mare's now 4 individual SW, Kuro - here's an overview...
* 2011 Denman colt - KURO (8 wins, five at LR level, Gr.1-placed)
* 2013 Darci Brahma colt - DISCTINCTIVE DARCI (10 wins, LR winner)
* 2014 Ocean Park colt - SOUTHERN LAD (7 wins to date, LR winner)
* 2017 Darci Brahma filly - KAHMA LASS (3 wins including Gr.1 NZ 1000 Guineas)
